District Attorney’s Office
The total numbers of methamphetamine charges filed and cases convicted during the years 2000 through 2004 are given below. Please note the following: • “Filed” includes charges of possession (11377), sale (11378) and transportation (11379) but does not include manufacturing. • An individual may have been charged with multiple offenses and would, therefore, have contributed to more than one case filed. • These figures do not include crimes in which methamphetamine may have been involved in many ways but in which meth offenses were not the primary criminal act. For example, an assault may have occurred while, and perhaps because, the offender was under the influence of meth. Or, an identity theft may have been perpetrated to gain funds with which to purchase meth. For economic and other reasons (cost of drug testing, prosecution, etc.) these cases are often filed as assault or larceny and no meth-specific charges are included. Thus, the numbers given here understate the influence of methamphetamine on criminal activity in (and cost to) our community.
