MTF History In October 1997, then Shasta County (California) District Attorney McGreggor Scott established the Methamphetamine Task Force to support and coordinate community agencies and activities in response to the increase in criminal cases linked to methamphetamine. It includes law enforcement, health, treament, education and business entities in Shasta County and is dedicated to reducing the influence of Meth on the community. Today it is a tax exempt non-profit California corporation. It is not a branch of law enforcement.Mission Statement The mission of this organization shall be to create safe and drug-free communities through a county-wide coalition that supports and strengthens prevention in Shasta County. In
furtherance of this mission this organization seeks to
develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive plan encompassing law
enforcement,: health and social services, education, and the private
sector to combat the epidemic of methamphetame in our community through
prevention, education, rehabilitation and appropriate prosecution and
punishment. Also, this organization will create community norms that
support positive, healthy, drug-free lifestyles; promote coordinated
committed regional collaboration; ensure that the community uses the
best research-based prevention practices and strategies; and promote
sustained funding for prevention programs. Its primary goals are:
