VITAL FACTS FOR EMPLOYERS

Many things can impact your business and some of those are negative. If you suspect an employee is using the devastating drug Methamphetamine, also known as Crank, Meth, Speed, Ice, Crystal, or Glass, here are some possible consequences or behaviors to watch for:

~ employee theft, fraud, embezzlement
~ on the job accidents
~ excessive sick leave
~ worker's compensation claims
~ poor performance, workmanship, or customer service
~ workplace aggression, violence
~ company liability

Physical Symptoms you or your Supervisory Staff can watch for:

~ stimulated, jerky movement; rapid speech; hyperactivity
~ behaviors that indicate feelings of intense excitement or euphoria
~ lack of sleep, insomnia
~ increased energy
~ dilated pupils even when exposed to light
~ mood swings, irritability, nervousness
~ increased blood pressure and heart rate
~ unusual sweating, dry mouth, or hot flashes
~ chest pain or heart palpitations

What to do about it: Every business should have an employee drug policy in place to cover liabilities and procedures regarding suspicions of drug use.

Drug testing: Criteria for drug testing should be spelled out in the company's employee drug policy. Two local labs which perform drug testing are:
